PM Modi stated the government did considerable reforms eight years back, which he referred to the GST regime which merged many taxes and local levies. The government relieved the tax burden around the country and made the tax structure simplified.
GST was launched on July 1 and, after reaching eight years of the indirect tax regime, it was time to reflect on these changes, he stated. A high powered committee was established for a review and consultations were made with the states after which the government has formulated new GST reforms.
“This will substantially reduce the taxes on items for the common man. Our MSMEs will benefit hugely. Daily-use items will become cheaper, which will also strengthen our economy,” said PM Modi.
