Don't know why Congress ignoring Shashi Tharoor: NCP leader

New Delhi: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president of Kerala unit, PC Chacko, raised questions at the Congress asking why the latter is ignoring party leader Shashi Tharoor.

Talking to media in Kannur, the NCP leader showed willingness to welcome Thirvananthapuram MP Tharoor in his party.

He said, “If Congress MP Shashi Tharoor comes to NCP, we will accept him warmly. Shashi Tharoor will remain as Thiruvananthapuram MP even if the Congress party rejects him. I do not know why Congress is ignoring Tharoor.”

In the latest, when the Congress party decided to nominate a non-Gandhi face for its top post, Tharoor emerged as a viable option for it. He fought the elections against senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge. However, Tharoor lost.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge had a weeping win as he bagged 7,897 votes against Tharoor barely managed to get 1,072 votes.

Uneven playing field?

In an interview to the NDTV prior to the votes were casted, Congress MP Tharoor had made controversial remarks saying, “There are certainly aspects that imply an uneven playing field.”

However, he later clarified. He said, “… in several PCCs, leaders welcomed and met Kharge Sahab. The same was not done for me. I visited PCCs but PCC chiefs were not available. I am not complaining, but do you not see a difference in treatment?”

Tharoor had said he could act as a catalyst of change for the grand old party in order to revive the party’s presence in the country.
