Following the precedent set in 2019, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has allocated 9 seats within the state and one in the neighboring region of Puducherry to the Congress for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with TNCC chief K Selvaperunthagai, concluded the agreement in the presence of AICC leaders KC Venugopal and Ajoy Kumar. Venugopal expressed confidence that the alliance between the Congress and DMK will secure victory in all 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Venugopal emphasized that the ‘bonding’ between the Congress and the DMK remains strong. The Congress serves as the principal ally of the DMK in the Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, the Congress contested nine out of 39 parliamentary seats, in addition to the lone seat in Puducherry. Out of these, it secured victory in eight seats in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the DMK contested 20 seats and emerged victorious in all of them during that election year.
In the 2021 assembly elections, the DMK contested 188 out of 234 seats and emerged victorious in 133. Meanwhile, the Congress was allocated 25 seats, of which it won 18.
