There have been multiple days in the inauguration of purple line of Bengaluru Metro. However, several media reports have claimed that the official inauguration will take place tomorrow, October 8.

Bengaluru’s metro system is set to undergo a significant expansion with the impending opening of the Krishnarajapuram – Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri–Challaghatta stretches, marking the completion of the Purple Line. This extension will result in a comprehensive 42.85 km metro line connecting Challaghatta in West Bengaluru to Whitefield (Kadugodi) in the East. The expansion aims to provide substantial relief from peak-hour traffic congestion in East Bengaluru.

Commuters can anticipate a train frequency of 10 minutes between Challagatta and Whitefield (Kadugodi) during peak hours, along with a five-minute gap between Pattandur Agrahara and Mysuru Road stations. Moreover, short-loop services linking Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Metro Station, Majestic, and MG Road/Byappanahalli are in the pipeline.

The metro journey from Challaghatta to Whitefield is estimated to take about 76 minutes, with an affordable end-to-end fare of Rs 60. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials project an increase in daily ridership from the current 6.2 lakh to 7 lakh passengers once the Whitefield-Challaghatta corridor becomes fully operational.

This achievement follows the inauguration of the Whitefield-KR Puram Metro section (13.7 km) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25, 2023. The completion of these pending stretches solidifies Bengaluru’s metro system as the second-largest in India after Delhi Metro’s extensive 350.2 km network.
