New Delhi: The president of India on Monday gave an accent to a proposal of the Delhi government to hike Delhi’s MLAs’ salaries by 66 percent.
The National Capital government has issued a notification to bring it into effect.
As per the notification, MLAs would now get Rs 90,000 per month instead of 54,000 per month that they used to get.
Here’s the increased salary break-up
- The monthly basic salary increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000.
- Constituency allowance hiked from Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000
- The conveyance allowance increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000
- telephone Allowance hiked to Rs 10,000 from Rs 80,000
- Secretariat allowance raised to Rs 15,000 from Rs 10,000

The monthly pay of Ministers, Speaker and Deputy Speaker, party chief in the house and leader of the opposition has been hiked from Rs 72,000 to Rs 1.70 lakh per month.
Besides all these hikes in allowances, legislators will also get an annual travel reimbursement of Rs 1 lakh which was Rs 50,000 earlier.
Fully furnished accommodation worth Rs 20,000 per month along with free use of a car with a driver and free medical treatment will be provided to all MLAs.
Delhi Assembly had passed a bill related to a hike in salary for Delhi’s MLAs. Earlier Delhi’s lawmakers were considered among the lowest-paid MLAs in the country.
