Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms impacted traffic movement in and around Delhi on Tuesday morning. Media reports highlighted how several prominent areas were waterlogged. Often referred to as the heart of Delhi, Connaught Place (CP) witnessed over 100.2 mm of rainfall within just two hours.
A slew of videos on the internet showed the main road network in the area flooded. Vehicles were seen struggling and wading through knee-deep water. Extensive waterlogging became a bane for travellers, especially those on two-wheelers. These conditions left traffic reeling and crawling in bumper-to-bumper jams.
Connaught Place wasn’t the only area affected. Videos from other parts of Delhi revealed similar issues. Footage uploaded by ANI showed streets brimming with stagnant water in Kamla Nagar Market.
Amid the downpour, Delhi Police issued multiple advisories warning commuters to avoid certain routes. One advisory reported waterlogging at the Azad Market Railway Underpass and Ram Bagh Road, affecting traffic in the surrounding areas. Another alert was issued for the area near the GTK Bus Depot.
Commuters travelling from the Singhu Border (NH44) towards Model Town or Kingsway Camp were advised to divert via Mukarba Chowk and Outer Ring Road. Those heading in the reverse direction were instructed to use Road No. 51 and Azadpur Chowk instead.
