Delhi Shrouded In Fog As Temperature Dips; Air Quality Lingers in ‘Very Poor’ Category

Delhi awoke to foggy conditions this Sunday morning as temperatures slightly dipped, hitting 7 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am in the national capital. In the Kashmiri Gate area, a thin layer of haze didn’t deter people from jogging and working out in the park.

The city had registered 7.4 degrees Celsius at the same time on Saturday. However, despite the chill, the air quality in Delhi persisted in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday morning, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

The Air Quality Index (AQI) at IGI Airport (T3) stood at 311 at 8:00 am, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). New Moti Bagh recorded a ‘very poor’ AQI of 331, while Punjabi Bagh and Anand Vihar experienced levels of 382 and 385, respectively.

As temperatures dropped, the city’s homeless sought refuge in night shelters like the one in Sarai Kale Khan. Open 24 hours a day, it offers bathing facilities, three meals a day, and medical care, including a clinic and medicine. Suraj, a homeless resident at the Sarai Kale Khan shelter, commended the facilities and staff for their support.

Informing about the weather of the next two days of the national capital, IMD predicted that the on December 18, the city will record the maximum temperature of 24 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature will settle at 7 degrees.

“On December 19, shallow fog will engulf the national capital as minimum temperature of the city will be recorded 7 degrees and maximum temperature of 24 degrees,”” it said.
