As the countdown to the Delhi polls begins, people are eager to know what the city will be like on February 5, polling day. The high-octane campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections will end at 5 PM on February 3, marking the start of the mandatory silence period before voting. Will schools, colleges, wine shops, and malls remain open? Which establishments will be closed on voting day? Here are the details.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that the metro services on all lines will start at 4 am for the convenience of voters and election staff. From then, the Metro service will be available at a time gap of 35 minutes till 6 am, after which the metro will run as usual.
Additionally, The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will operate more bus services on 35 routes from 4 am so that voters can easily reach the poling booths.
What All Will Be Open?
All essential services, including hospitals, pharmacies, and other critical facilities, will remain open during the elections. Additionally, everyday shops such as grocery stores and food outlets are expected to operate as usual to ensure people do not face any inconvenience.
Services That Are Open On Feb 5
As per Election Commission guidelines, liquor shops across the national capital will remain closed from 6 PM on February 3 until 6 PM on February 5.
Schools and colleges in Delhi will also be shut on polling day, as many of them will serve as voting centers. Additionally, government offices and banks will remain closed to allow employees to cast their votes. Cinema halls and theaters will be closed during voting hours to encourage voter participation.
Voting will be held in a single phase for 70 constituencies of Delhi. In each constituency, the selective polling stations will open at 7:00 am and remain open till 6:30 pm on February 5 (Wednesday). Voters can choose their preferred time to vote, as voting starts early, at 7:00 am. The counting for Delhi elections 2025 will commence on February 8, 2025, with the result being declared on the same day.
