Drug Trafficking: The Delhi police claimed to have arrested 74 Narco-offenders after conducting raids at 345 locations across 15 districts in 12 hours. The raid was a part of ‘Operation Kavach-5’ which lasted for 12 hours- starting at 4 pm on August 31 till 4 am on September 1. More than 900 individuals were taken into police custody, reflecting a severe surge in drug trafficking in the city.
The 74 narco-offenders booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were involved in smuggling goods and illegal drug trade. One of the most striking aspects of the raid was that police held 816 peddlers under preventive arrest. Among these were bootleggers and criminals who were part of the drug trafficking, but could not be booked under the act due to lack of evidence.
