Delhi Ordinance

Kumar Gaurav, New Delhi: The Opposition has moved a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on July 26 that will be discussed next week on August 8-10. According to the information, the discussion will start from 12 in the noon right after the Question Hour on August 8 and will conclude on August 10 with the reply of the Prime Minister.

There is also a provision for voting in the no-confidence motion. The position of the Lok Sabha is clear. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Democratic Party (NDA) have a bumper majority and now Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party YSRCP and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s party have also spoken of supporting BJP and NDA.

Numbers game in Lok Sabha

As of now, there are 5 vacant seats in the lower house. As the majority mark is 270, the BJP has hold on 301 seats. If the number of its allies is merged, then the figure reaches 331.

If we add 12 of BJD and 22 of YSRCP, then this figure will be around 365 today. This means NDA’s upper hand is very heavy. According to Union Minister Piyush Goyal, the government has a figure of over 350 in the Lok Sabha.

The ruling party will capitalize on the no-confidence motion voting by showing Modi’s victory and the defeat of the Opposition alliance. It means that even before the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year, it will get benifit on the defeat of the Parliament on a large scale and work to enthuse its workers.

On the other hand, Delhi’s Service Bill will be presented in the Rajya Sabha this week. After it is passed by the Lok Sabha, it will be placed in the Upper House.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched a huge reach out program regarding the bill. He toured almost the whole country and met leaders of all parties to find help. The result was that the Congress, which was defeated by the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and Punjab, also stood by the side of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

What is the figure of ruling party and opposition in Rajya Sabha?

In the Rajya Sabha, the ruling party and the opposition will be face to face on the (Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill). The number of BJP members in Rajya Sabha is 92. Including the MPs nominated by its allies, the total number of NDA members becomes 113. YSRCP and BJD have announced to support the government on this bill as well.

In this sense, YSRCP has 9 and BJD has 9 MPs. If these are added, then the figure with the Central Government in the Upper House i.e. Rajya Sabha will reach 131. Not only this, some political parties which are neutral i.e. those who are away from both Congress and BJP alliance, they can also walk out of the Parliament after their statement, which means they will not participate in voting, which will directly benefit the ruling party.

There are currently 7 seats vacant in the Rajya Sabha and the current figure is 245. In such a situation, 123 seats are needed for majority and NDA will reach the figure of 131 with the cooperation of other parties.
