As air pollution in Delhi-NCR continues to worsen, anxiety is rising among students and parents over whether schools will remain open on November 21. With the Delhi government actively considering the implementation of GRAP Stage IV, the highest level of emergency response to hazardous air quality, the question of school closures has gained urgent attention.
No official order yet for Delhi, Noida or Ghaziabad
So far, no government notification has been issued regarding the closure of schools in Delhi, Noida or Ghaziabad for tomorrow. However, given the severe rise in pollution and the declining air quality index (AQI), parents and students are closely monitoring announcements.
Earlier, both the Delhi government and the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration (Noida) had shifted classes up to grade 5 to online mode as pollution levels became dangerous for young children. Now, with the possibility of implementing GRAP IV, which is triggered when AQI touches the ‘Severe+’ category, authorities are reconsidering the functioning of schools for all grades.
Officials have stated that an official circular is likely soon, but until then, schools continue to operate normally. Parents are urged to stay in touch with school authorities to avoid missing sudden updates.
Health concerns rise as pollution worsens
The thick smog settling over Delhi-NCR has severely impacted visibility and public health, especially among children. Several student groups and parents have appealed to the government to shift all classes to online mode until the air quality improves.
With many students reportedly struggling to breathe during outdoor activities and travel, stakeholders are pushing for immediate relief measures. If GRAP IV is enforced, it may lead to stricter actions including school closures, curbs on vehicle movement and suspension of construction activities.
For now, students and parents should keep a close watch on government notifications as decisions may change rapidly depending on pollution levels.
