A couple from Delhi lost their lives after being stuck for more than eight hours inside their badly crushed WagonR on the Delhi–Mumbai expressway near Nuh, police said. The victims, 42-year-old Laxmi Ram and his wife, 38-year-old Kusumlata, worked as contractual labourers. The incident took place late Tuesday night, between 11:30 pm and midnight, near Nowshera village, while the two were returning home from Hindaun in Rajasthan’s Karauli district. Their grey Delhi-registered Maruti WagonR is believed to have been hit from behind by a heavy vehicle, forcing it into the metal crash barrier on the highway.
Police reached the spot only around 7.30 am on Wednesday after a passerby alerted a patrol team about the wrecked car. By the time help arrived, the couple had already succumbed to their injuries and heavy bleeding, still trapped inside the crushed vehicle. According to officers, the way the bodies were found suggested that the husband had managed to hold on to his wife in his final moments. The couple lived in Mangiram Park in Delhi’s Budh Vihar and are survived by their four young children, two sons and two daughters.
Here’s what was written in FIR
Laxmi Ram’s father, Devi Singh (65), wrote the following in his handwritten complaint that served as a basis for the FIR: “On 02.12.2025, around 7 pm, my son Laxmi Ram and daughter-in-law Kusumlata left for Delhi in WagonR… They were going via the Delhi-Mumbai Highway. When my son and daughter-in-law reached Channel Point 30.900, some unknown vehicle hit them from behind at very high speed and… caused a terrible accident… both my son… and daughter-in-law… died on the spot… I called my son at 8.56 am, then the Jaisinghpur post people picked up the phone and told me that your son and daughter-in-law had met with an accident and died.”
Bodies given to family
“Two heavy vehicles have been flagged on the footage; we are tracing the owner of those and should nab the accused soon,” said the station officer. Police arrived as soon as they were notified, he added, implying that night cars simply drove by.
The bodies were given to the family later in the evening after the post-mortem was completed on Wednesday at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nalhar. After the husband’s relatives returned the bodies from Nuh, the cremation took place on Thursday morning.
