The Delhi minor rape survivor’s mother articulated an open letter urging everyone to respect their privacy. She asserted that the family does not wish to interact with the officials regarding the heart-wrenching incident.
Currently, the victim is admitted to the hospital for her medical examination. Subsequent to giving a statement to the magistrate, the girl’s mother wrote an open letter appealing people to be considerate of their privacy. She penned in Hindi, “My daughter has recorded her statement before the magistrate. Now, we don’t wish to speak to anyone about the issue. This is a very serious and intense time for all of us. Thus, I request everyone to please respect our privacy.”
The victim was repeatedly raped, sexually harassed, and physically molested between November 2020 and January 2021 by her uncle, a senior official in the Delhi government’s Woman and Child Development Department. The girl was staying at his residence after her father’s demise on October 1, 2020. As per the harrowing details that came to light, the accused’s wife forced the victim to take abortion pills in order to terminate her pregnancy. The accused identified as Premoday Khakha (51) along with his wife, Seema Rani, were apprehended on Monday.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi, as cited by PTI, the accused and his wife hailed from Shakti Enclave in the Burari area. Khalsi further mentioned that the case against the senior official and his wife Seema was registered on August 13.
Moments before the police arrived to arrest the couple for the monstrous crime, they attempted to escape along with their family. Their effort to run away was also captured by the CCTV installed in the locality.
Meanwhile, amidst the turmoil in the national capital over the rape incident, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal ordered the suspension of Khakha on Monday, in addition to seeking a report from Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar on the matter.
Additionally, the Delhi Commission for Women, Chief Swati Maliwal staged a dharma at the hospital where the rape survivor is admitted, claiming that she was prevented from meeting the victim.
The incident came to light after the girl, now-a class-12 student, had an anxiety attack. Following this, her mother admitted her to a hospital. Amidst the counselling session, the minor unveiled the distressing details of the agonizing incident.
