Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs & Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, and Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, witnessed a significant developmental milestone as a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) completed its underground journey between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj Metro stations. Phase 4 of the Metro expansion marked vital progress with the TBM successfully excavating a 1.55-km tunnel between Kishangarh and Vasant Kunj.
A breakthrough occurred at the Vasant Kunj station site, where Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Minister Tokhan Sahu observed the event together in their capacities overseeing power, housing, and urban affairs. The construction team utilized a 91m-long TBM to excavate the tunnel at depths ranging from 15.7 meters to 30.2 meters, with an average depth of 23 meters. The structure consists of 1,107 tunnel rings, each with an inner diameter of 5.8 meters. Meanwhile, the construction of a parallel two-way movement tunnel is ongoing and is expected to be completed by June 2025, as reported by Jagran.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar highlighted that New York currently holds the global record for the largest metro network within a single city, spanning 399 km. He expressed confidence that with the planned inauguration of a 12-km metro line in December 2025, the Delhi Metro system will become the world’s largest single-city network.
