Delhi Metro: DMRC JOINS ONDC Network To Enable Ticket Booking Via Multiple Mobile Apps, Enhancing Passenger Convenience

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has become the first major urban transit system in India to join the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), enabling metro ticket booking through more than 10 popular consumer apps.

For the first time as a large urban transport system in India, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered into a historic arrangement with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The opening scope for Delhi Metro ticket bookings via more than 10 of the most popular apps including Charter, EaseMyTrip, Google Maps, Highway Delight, Miles and Kilometers (via Telegram), NammaYatri, OneTicket, Rapido, RedBus, Tummok and Yatri Railways, jagran.com reported.

With this initiative, passengers no longer have to download the metro app separately or switch between digital platforms. DMRC’s connectivity to the ONDC network is particularly noteworthy, given that DMRC serves an average of 65 lakh passengers per day, taking users one step closer to a seamless, truly accessible and passenger-centric digital mobility ecosystem. With the technology service provider SequelString AI (SAI) facilitating the integration, DMRC’s ticketing services can now be accessed at multiple digital touchpoints – including mobility apps and travel platforms, and even Telegram bots.

This partnership offers a number of advantages for commuters travelling in the city. For instance, a passenger going from Jaipur to Delhi by bus is now able to book not just bus tickets on the redBus app, but also metro tickets on the redBus app from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, to any destination in Delhi. Likewise, commuters in the city can plan the entire trip on the Rapido app, e.g., book a bike taxi from home to Dhaula Kuan metro station, take the metro to Anand Vihar, and then take a bike or cab from there.

DMRC Managing Director Dr Vikas Kumar said, “This partnership with ONDC is our effort to simplify metro travel and bring it to people’s everyday digital platforms.” Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO of ONDC said, “The integration of DMRC into the ONDC network demonstrates how open digital ecosystems can enable wider and seamless access to public services.”

This collaborative effort represents progress not only made in a technological sense, but is also a radical step in establishing open digital public infrastructure. By allowing the integration of physical services, in this instance metro ticketing, with our digital network, DMRC is making the journey experience for the travelling public more seamless and integrated.
