Delhi: A 26-year-old man, who boarded an e-rickshaw to reach his home from Welcome Metro Station, paid the price of his life for Rs 400 after the e-rickshaw driver and passenger stabbed him multiple times in Delhi on Monday.
The next morning, his body, with three stab marks on the chest and one on the neck, was found near the community hall in Delhi. To nab the accused, Delhi police formed four teams, scanned hundreds of CCTV cameras, and zeroed in on two suspects.
Shahzad, 20; and Tahir, 36, a resident of Janta Mazdoor Colony in Delhi, were apprehended by Delhi police, and during the investigation, they revealed the tail of a shocking murder. Police said the accused revealed that they used to rob passengers at night. Shahzad used to pose as an e-rickshaw driver, and Tahir acted as a passenger.
“As they spot a target, they persuade the target to board their e-rickshaw and later rob the target at knifepoint after parking the vehicle,” said the police.
“The deceased Vijay, 26, boarded their e-rickshaw near Welcome Metro station, and as they reached near the community hall, they robbed his mobile phone and cash worth Rs 400 at knife point.” said DCP (northeast) Joy Tirkey, adding that when Vijay tried to protest, the accused stabbed him multiple times and left his body on the spot.
Police recovered Vijay’s mobile phone, the blood-stained clothes of the accused, and their e-rickshaw used in the crime.The DCP said, “The victim was seen on CCTV footage at different locations around 11.29 pm on December 18.” The accused were booked on charges of murder and further investigations are underway in the case.
