Delhi: In northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, tragedy struck on Friday as a teenage boy fatally shot the mother of a 15-year-old girl from another community inside their home. The boy, just short of 18, had been persistently harassing the girl, even confronting her on the road. Concerned for their daughter’s safety, the girl’s parents sent her to a hostel, further infuriating the boy.
On Friday noon, accompanied by two associates, the boy forcefully entered the girl’s house, seeking her whereabouts from her mother. Upon learning that the girl wasn’t home, he shot the 35-year-old woman twice, resulting in her tragic demise. Despite swift medical intervention, she was pronounced dead at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. At the time of reporting, the police had not yet apprehended the three assailants.

The victim’s family lamented the inaction of law enforcement despite multiple complaints regarding the boy’s harassment. They revealed that the boy had been issuing threats for the past month, a claim substantiated by his recent social media post flaunting a pistol. In the aftermath of the shooting, a heightened police presence was observed in the area to prevent communal tensions. Additionally, community meetings were convened with elders from both communities to address concerns over women’s safety and the efficacy of law enforcement in combating such crimes.
Authorities assured the public that extensive efforts were underway to apprehend the suspects, with raids being conducted and CCTV footage being analyzed to trace their movements. DCP (northwest) Jitender Meena affirmed that multiple police teams were diligently working towards the swift arrest of the perpetrators.
