The Yashobhoomi-Mahipalpur road built over the Dwarka Expressway tunnel is set to open in August 2025, promising significant relief for commuters on the busy Delhi-Gurugram Expressway (NH-48).

Commuters traveling between Delhi and Gurugram can finally expect some relief in their daily traffic chaos. The first fully elevated road above the Dwarka Expressway tunnel between Yashobhoomi and Mahipalpur will reportedly be operational by August. According to India TV, the remaining work involves linking this new stretch with the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway at Mahipalpur, which will happen next month.

Delhi-Gurugram Expressway: Over 1.5 Lakh Vehicles Expected

Once the route is connected, it will become fully operational for daily commuters. Officials expect over 1.5 lakh vehicles to use the corridor per day. The opening of this route is expected to ease pressure on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, which has a considerable amount of inter-city traffic on it.

Delhi-Gurugram Expressway: Direct Route To Dhaula Kuan Now Under Final Completion

To ease transit towards Dhaula Kuan, a six-lane road is being built on the existing tunnel to link the Dwarka Expressway and the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway at Mahipalpur. This new section is nearing completion and will come with two-lane service roads on either side to accommodate additional traffic.

While some vehicles are already utilising some parts of this under-construction stretch of road, traffic congestion remains a concern due to incomplete sections. Many drivers are avoiding using the roadway because of delays. However, once the entire work is completed, it is expected to become a favoured route for many thousands of commuters.

50,000 Vehicles To Shift, Alleviating Load On Delhi-Gurugram Expressway

When the road is fully open, the enhanced road is anticipated to receive over 50,000 vehicles per day, making a significant dent into the traffic pressures experienced on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Experts believe that around 80% of the traffic envisaged on the new approved corridor is vehicles intending to use the older expressway.

According to an India TV report, experts have suggested that building a tunnel from Mahipalpur to the airport in Gurugram could significantly reduce traffic between the Sirhaul border and Mahipalpur.
