Delhi Govt To Roll Out ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana’ & Free LPG Scheme—Big Relief For Beneficiaries Ahead Of Festive Season

The Delhi government is set to announce two significant initiatives: the 'Mahila Samriddhi Yojana' and a free gas cylinder scheme.

The Delhi government is all set to announce two major welfare schemes, ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana’ and a scheme for providing free LPG cylinders during Holi and Diwali. According to official sources, these schemes will be approved by the Delhi Cabinet in a meeting at 11 am on Saturday. After approval, the announcement will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

According to sources, the Delhi government will transfer the funds directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Some beneficiaries might get the first installment during a launch event at Chhatrasal Stadium on March 8.

Who Will Be Eligible For This Scheme?

As per reports, this scheme will cover: Women in the age group of 18 to 60 years. Women belonging to households having an annual income below Rs 3 lakh. Those who don’t pay income tax. Women who don’t hold government jobs or get any other governmental financial support.

The BJP had promised this in its manifesto before the Delhi Assembly Elections, which stated that if it were elected, Rs 2500 would be provided to women in Delhi each month. Victory for the BJP in the Delhi elections In the February 5 Assembly Elections, the BJP emerged victorious by winning 48 seats out of a total of 70, ending a 10-year rule of AAP in the national capital as AAP only managed to win 22 seats, failing to retain power.

The Delhi government is putting up an online portal for registrations besides developing software for verification and eligibility checks. An integration of data from various departments is on the cards to figure out genuine beneficiaries, said the IT department.

The BJP’s Mahila Samriddhi Scheme is somewhat similar to cash transfer schemes in place in other BJP-run states, such as: ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ in Madhya Pradesh. ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ in Maharashtra. This scheme is also seen as a counter to the AAP’s ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’, under which the party promised Rs 2,100 per month for women in case it was re-elected.
