Delhi Early Morning Encounter: Anti-narcotics cell chases down dreadful gangster of Bhau gang – WATCH

Delhi Police arrested Bhau gang shooter Ankit after he fired at officers during an encounter in Najafgarh. He was wanted in the Rohit Lamba firing case and carried a Rs 25,000 reward.

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Dwarka arrested Ankit, a wanted member of the Himanshu Bhau gang, after an encounter in Najafgarh on Thursday morning. The accused, who had been on the run for over a month, sustained a bullet injury to his right leg during the exchange of fire and was later taken into custody.

Police team fired upon; one bullet hits constable’s jacket

According to senior police officials, the ANC Dwarka team received specific input that Ankit would arrive near Sai Baba Mandir in Najafgarh around 8:00 AM. The police laid a trap and Ankit soon appeared on a two-wheeler. When officers attempted to intercept him, he tried to escape and opened fire, discharging three rounds at the police team.

One of the bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of a head constable, but no police personnel were injured. In response, the team fired three rounds for self-defence, hitting Ankit in the leg and enabling officers to overpower and arrest him. A pistol and the scooter he was riding were recovered from the spot.

Accused linked to Rohit Lamba firing case

Police confirmed that Ankit was one of the two main shooters involved in the October 28 firing on gangster Rohit Lamba in Najafgarh, where four assailants had fired multiple rounds. A case was registered at PS Najafgarh and during the investigation, the Himanshu Bhau gang was found involved. Four accused were already arrested, while Ankit and another shooter, Deepak, remained absconding.

Based on interrogation and human intelligence, police identified the duo and declared a reward of Rs 25,000 on each of them. Officials added that Ankit is a habitual offender and had previously fired at a Central Intelligence Agency team in Bahadurgarh in 2020, injuring a constable.

Further investigation is underway and efforts to track down absconding shooter Deepak continue.
