A shocking murder in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar on Friday has created panic and anger among residents. A first-year law student of Delhi University, 27-year-old Mohammad Irshad, was brutally stabbed to death after what initially seemed like a minor disagreement between neighbours. Police say the incident escalated far beyond anyone’s expectations, turning into a deadly attack in broad daylight.
Small argument over cleanliness turns fatal
The incident took place on 5 December around 11:30 am near Gali No. 3/14, L-1st, Sangam Vihar. According to investigators, Irshad had a brief argument with his neighbours over a cleanliness issue outside their homes. What started as a simple dispute quickly spiralled into a heated confrontation, with members from both families jumping into the fight.
In a sudden turn of events, Irshad’s uncle Mubarak, his cousin Ishtiyaq, Mubarak’s wife Rihana Khatoon and a 15-year-old minor allegedly attacked him with a knife. During the scuffle, Irshad was stabbed multiple times. His sister, who witnessed the entire incident, later told police that the attackers continued to hit him even after he collapsed.
Terrified neighbours alerted the family and Irshad was immediately rushed to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Two accused on the run; Police intensify probe
A police team from Neb Sarai reached the spot soon after and examined the area. CCTV footage from the lane confirmed the group assault. A case of murder and other relevant sections has been registered.
Police have detained the minor and Rihana Khatoon, but the two main accused: Mubarak and Ishtiyaq, are still absconding. Search teams have been formed to track them down and the police say they are also working to recover the weapon used in the attack.
Officials added that the investigation is progressing and strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved once the remaining accused are arrested.
