Delhi Doctor Attacked: A resident doctor and a medical dresser were attacked by a patient’s attendant shortly after resident doctors returned to work following an 11-day nationwide strike over the rape and murder of a trainee in Kolkata.

The attack happened at the medical professional Hedgewar Hospital in Karkardooma late Saturday night while the doctor was giving critical care.

Doctor Assaulted By Patient And Attendant During Night Shift

The medical professional who was attacked told PTI, “Around 1:00 am on Saturday, a patient with a forehead injury came to the hospital. I brought him to the dressing room to sew up the wound. After finishing the first stitch and starting the second, the patient suddenly pushed me and started yelling insults.”

The doctor said, “The patient’s son, who was outside the room, came in, slapped me, and both of them began insulting me even more.”

The doctor, who asked to remain anonymous, mentioned that the patient was drunk.

Delhi Doctors Resume Work After Strike Disrupts

On August 23, hundreds of resident doctors in Delhi returned to work after the Supreme Court’s appeal and the government’s promises to address their issues.

The strike, which started on August 12, caused major disruptions to non-emergency services like outpatient care and diagnostic tests at central and Delhi government hospitals.
