New Delhi: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Wednesday sentenced former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda to four years imprisonment in a matter related to irregularities in allocating a coal block in Chattisgarh.
The court also sent ex-coal Secretary H C Gupta, and senior officers KS Kropha, and KC Samaria to three-year imprisonment in the case.
Darda’s son Devendra, and JLD Yavatmal Energy Pvt Ltd’s Director Manoj Kumar Jayaswal were also allocated 4 years imprisonment in the coal scam case. The Scam was highlighted during Manmohan Singh-led UPA government.
On July 13, special Judge Sanjay Bansal convicted all of them and reserved his verdict. They all were held guilty under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
However, all the accused were acquitted in 409 IPC ( Criminal breach of Trust by Public Servants).
Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused the Fatehpur East Coal Block of being allocated to JLD Yavatal Energy with misrepresentation of facts on the eligibility conditions.
As per the CBI, it is the 13th conviction in the coal scam case.
