A scuffle that broke out in Ghazipur on 9th September led to police officials allegedly beating a BJP worker who were staging a protest Amid the escalation and outrage over the incident, the designated ACP of the area has taken strict action against the police personnel involved.
Six police personnel, including the SHO of Nonhara, have been suspended. Among them are one SHO, one Sub-Inspector (SI), one Head Constable, and three Constables. Additionally, two SIs and three Constables who were present at the police outpost during the incident have also been punished.
According to updates, the case will be investigated by a Magistrate. The BJP workers were reportedly staging a protest at the police station when they were attacked. One of the protestors, identified as Siyaram, succumbed to his injuries and died on 11th September.
Currently, Siyaram’s body has been taken for postmortem examination. Vikas Rai, who was leading the protest, said that they had initially spoken to the police station in charge. After some time, the area officer of Kasimabad also arrived at the spot but went back into the station without speaking to the protesters.
He added that soon after, the lights in the police station were turned off, and everyone in the protest was beaten using force. Sitaram Upadhyay was also injured during this beating.
A statement was issued by Superintendent of Police Dr. Iraj Raja through the media cell. According to the statement, the two parties had a dispute regarding an electricity pole. Around 25-30 people were involved in the protest over this issue, and the police had previously requested them to vacate the area.
As per media reports, further actions will be taken based on the facts that emerge after the investigation.
