Dehradun-Mussoorie Ropeway: Good News for travelers! In just two years, tourists will be able to commute to Mussoorie via ropeway. The journey which usually takes 1.5 to 3 hours to reach Mussoorie from Dehradun will now be completed in just 15 minutes.
The ropeway will cover a shorter distance of 5.5 km than the average 33 km long distance by road. It will feature passenger trolleys with automatic doors facilitating the transport of about 1300 passengers. According to reports, the foundation of the lower terminal of the ropeway as well as its parking in Dehradun’s Purkul village is almost complete. Meanwhile, work is underway for the approach road and foundation of the upper terminal in Gandhi Chowk, Mussoorie.

Break-Taking, Adventurous Journey Via Ropeway
The much-awaited ropeway is scheduled to be completed by 2026, as per the Tourism Department. The Dehradun-Mussoorie Ropeway promises a break-taking, adventurous journey as tourists surpass the mountains and arrive directly at Mussoorie’s Mall Road. Data from the Tourism department reveals that over 10,000 tourists visit Mussoorie daily leading to traffic disruption. This new mode of transport will help in combating traffic jams effectively, particularly during the peak tourist season.
Ropeway To Boost Revenue And Employment?
The ropeway is expected to boost revenue and employment while providing a pollution-free journey. Additionally, landslides and debris which led to the closure of routes during rain and snowfall will not affect the travelers. Authorities are continuously monitoring the construction work of the Doon-Mussoorie ropeway.
The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board had previously launched the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway with investments worth Rs 300 crore.
