New Delhi: The Union Defense Ministry on Friday signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) for the purchase of six Dornier-228 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) for Rs 667 crore.
According to government sources, These aircraft will be used by the Indian Air Force for route transport and communication purposes. Apart from this, Dornier-228 will also be used in the training of transport pilots of the Indian Air Force.
As per the information, The current batch of six aircraft will be procured by HAL with an upgraded fuel-efficient engine and a five-bladed propeller.
Donier-228 is perfect for the islands of the Northeast with half-finished and short runways.
The induction of six aircraft will further strengthen the operational capability of the Indian Air Force in remote areas.
