New Delhi: Defence Ministry on Thursday agreed on plans to buy 26 Rafale fighter aircraft and three conventional submarines for the Indian Navy from France.
The Defence Acquisition Council approved the proposals in a meeting headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and three defence services chiefs and senior officials.
The Defence procurement deal between the two nations will likely be announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France.
According to news Agency ANI, The deals are estimated to be worth Rs 90,000 crore. The final cost will only be known after the negotiation.
If deals are finalised, the Indian Navy will get 22 single-seated Rafale marine aircraft along with four trainer aircraft.
Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and Vikrant have been operating the MiG-29s.
