While monsoon rains have lowered temperatures, several areas have also witnessed tragic incidents where electricity failures have claimed the lives of 20 people. In various districts of Uttar Pradesh, electricity failures in the past 24 hours have tragically claimed the lives of 20 people. Ten individuals lost their lives in Varanasi and surrounding districts. Lightning strikes resulted in three fatalities in Hamirpur, and two each in Mahoba and Bareilly. Additionally, one person each died in Badaun, Maharajganj, and Jhansi.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Uttar Pradesh, with monsoon expected to persist for the next five days across Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, and Rohilkhand regions. These areas are likely to experience intense cloud cover and the possibility of lightning strikes accompanying the rain. The Yogi government has instructed agencies to remain on alert for relief and rescue operations.
The district administration has taken custody of the bodies of those killed by lightning strikes and sent them for postmortem. Several travelers also lost their lives due to lightning strikes. Authorities are investigating the incidents while heavy rainfall has caused flooding in many areas.
