New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Saturday has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking amendments in the Remission & Parole policy after the rape convicts of high profile cases were released or sent out on parole.
The DCW chairperson Swati Malliwal shared the letter on Twitter in which she has urged PM Modi for his urgent intervention claiming that the state governments have failed to provide justice to the rape victims. She added that the governments use these rapists for “vote-bank politics.”
pic.twitter.com/oElFQbyxhW

In the latest, the rape convicts of Bilkis Bano were released prematurely. The heinous crime of gang with Bano took place during the Gujarat riots in 2002 when the victim was 21-years-old and 5-month pregnant. The accused had also killed 7 of her family members including her 3-year-old child.
In another incident highlighted by the DCW chairperson, “the Government of Haryana has released Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on parole who has been convicted of rapes and murders and is serving a life sentence in a jail in Rohtak.”
Ram Rahim has been out on parole for several times since he was convicted. Recently, he held several ‘Pravachan Sabhas’ and released music videos promoting himself which was attended by several top officials and ministers.
The letter read, “The politicians continue to use rapists to further their vote bank politics, especially when elections are round the corner, which happen to be the case in both Gujarat and Haryana.”
