Dalit man killed in MP: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old Dalit youth was beaten to death and his 49-year-old mother was stripped after they refused to withdraw a sexual harassment complaint in the Barodia Naunagir village of Sagar district. The incident occurred late on Thursday night, and the police have arrested nine individuals so far involved in the case.
The victims had filed a sexual harassment complaint against the accused in 2019. Since then, the accused has been threatening the victim’s family to withdraw their complaint. On Thursday, a scuffle between the prime accused and the victim escalated, leading to the assault on the victim and his mother by the accused and their family.
Despite being rushed to the hospital by the victim’s brother, the 20-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. His mother, who was also assaulted, is undergoing treatment and is in stable condition.
Initially, the victim’s family refused to cremate his body, demanding stringent action against the accused. They also called for the demolition of the accused’s house. After assurances from the district collector of Sagar, Deepak Arya, regarding strict action, the family proceeded to cremate the victim’s body.
The police have arrested nine individuals based on a complaint filed by the accused’s family. The accused face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Murder (Section 302), Sexual Harassment (Section 353), and Voluntarily Causing Hurt (Section 323). Additionally, they have been charged under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The prime accused, Vikram Singh, aged 28, was previously accused of sexually harassing the victim’s sister in 2019. He had been pressuring the victim to withdraw the case filed by his sister against him.
