A Dalit student was attacked and had his hands chopped off by three upper-caste Hindu men in Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu. The police have arrested the men, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Ayyasami’s mother said the attackers used caste insults before attacking him. Villagers who saw the attack quickly helped him and took him to Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital, where he is getting treatment.
The SIPCOT police have filed a case under several sections, including 294(b), 126, 118(1), 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which covers crimes like using bad words or songs in public, wrongful restraint, causing serious harm, and threats. They also filed under sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
All the three accused-Vinoth,Aadhi Eeswaran and Vallarasu have been arrested and police is investigating the matter further.
A nine-year-old Dalit boy was brutally assaulted after being accused of scribbling on a car’s dust-covered window in December 2024. Two men who tried to help were stabbed during the fight, causing anger and protests to spread widely. The accused was identified as 26-year-old Mohan who was later arrested. The incident occurred when a fourth standard boy was stopped by Mohan and dragged inside his house, where he, along with two other boys, were severely beaten. According to the victim, Mohan tied him up and thrashed him while accusing the children of defacing his car.
