Cyclone Shakthi- Cyclone Shakthi is expected to move towards the northwestern and central Arabian Sea, impacting the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts by October 6.

Cyclone Shakthi- The Severe Cyclonic Storm “Shakthi” over the northwest Arabian Sea has moved west-southwest at a speed of 15 kmph in the last 6 hours. According to the latest update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm moved west-southwest at a speed of 17 kmph over the past six hours. The cyclone is expected to continue moving west-southwest and reach the northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea by the evening of Sunday, October 5.

Cyclone Shakthi-Mumbai and Gujarat to receive rain

As an effect of the cyclone, heavy rainfall has been predicted over the East Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. The IMD has issued heavy rain warning for Mumbai and some areas of Gujarat. Scattered light rain is expected in Mumbai until October 8, 2025. During the cyclone, the wind speeds are expected to reach 45–55 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h, particularly along the North Maharashtra coast until Sunday, October 5.

Furthermore, Cyclone Shakthi is expected to move towards the northwestern and central Arabian Sea, impacting the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts by October 6. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions as the cyclone approaches.

Regional Meteorological Center, Mumbai wrote on X, “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rain with gusty winds 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of South-Konkan-Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.”

Meanwhile, coastal district collectors of Saurashtra, who were attending a national conference on land administration and disaster management in Gandhinagar, returned to their respective districts by Saturday evening. Moreover, Sunday leaves for Collectorate staff were cancelled as authorities closely monitored cyclonic storm Shakthi, currently over 500 km off the Gujarat coast. While the state remains alert, forecasts indicate that cyclone is likely to stay at sea without making landfall in Gujarat.

From the morning of October 6, cyclone Shakthi is likely to change direction, moving eastwards while gradually weakening. Authorities and residents are advised to stay alert and monitor updates as the cyclone progresses.
