Cyclone Dana Live Lanfall, West Bengal Impact Updates: Lakhs of residents in Odisha’s coastal districts such as Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore, along with people in West Bengal, prepared for a challenging night as the severe cyclonic storm Dana commenced its landfall shortly after midnight on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
In Bhadrak, trees were uprooted due to gusty winds and heavy incessant rainfall wreaked havoc as the landfall continued in the early hours of Friday. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Odisha is currently experiencing strong winds blowing at a speed of 100 to 110 Kmph gusting up to 120 Kmph.

On the ongoing situation, ADM of Bhadrak, Shantanu Mohanty said, "We have already evacuated the vulnerable people and they are in Cyclone shelters. Electricity and other things have been restored. Fire Services, ODRF, and NDRF teams have been moved. There has been a red alert in Bhadrak as heavy rain is expected. We have conveyed the message to the people not to go out."

The landfall process continues. According to sources, radar reflectivity suggests maximum impact over Bhadrak, Kendrapara and some parts of Balasore.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Dana has moved north-northwestward at a speed of 12 km/h and lay centered at 4:30 a.m. on October 25 over north coastal odisha, near latitude 20.90° N and longitude 86.90° E, about 15 km north of dhamara and 30 km north-northwest of habalikhati nature camp (bhitarkanika).
The landfall process is ongoing, with the rear sector of the cyclone entering the land. This process is expected to continue for the next 1-2 hours and is likely to move nearly west-northwestward across north Odisha and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm by the forenoon today.
