Cyclone Biparjoy: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday put Saurashtra and Kutch coasts in Gujarat on Red alert as cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ will intensify.
Biparjoy is moving towards northeast and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by the June 15 evening, said the IMD.

“Cyclone Warning for Saurashtra and Kutch Coasts: RED MESSAGE. VSCS BIPARJOY at 0530IST of today over NE Arabian Sea near lat 21.9N and long 66.3E, about 280km WSW of Jakhau Port (Gujarat), 290km WSW of Devbhumi Dwarka,” tweeted IMD.
“It is very likely to move nearly northeastwards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by the evening of 15th June as a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 125-135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph,” it read.

17 NDRF teams deployed across Gujarat
A total of 17 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams have been deployed, including four in Kutch, three each in Dwarka and Rajkot, two in Jamnagar and one in Porbandar, as Cyclone Biparjoy is about to pass through the coastal areas of Gujarat.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is scheduled to visit the State Emergency Services Control Room at 10 am today. Amreli police delivered essential items including vegetables and milk to villagers of Sialbet in Jaffrabad, Gujarat.
School closed in Gujarat
A two-day holiday has been declared for schools in Kutch, Porbandar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and Dwarka districts of Gujarat. Cyclone Biparajoy is going to pass through the coastal areas of Porbandar and Dwarka in the state today.
Evacuation from coastal areas in Gujarat
The government said that they have so far evacuated around 37,800 people living near the sea in eight districts of the state. The IMD has said that the cyclone has extensive damaging potential and is likely to affect Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka and Jamnagar districts the most.
