New Delhi: The Centre has put Gujarat on high alert after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a cyclone called Biparjoy is due to hit several parts of the state in a couple of days.
The cyclone is over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to move nearly northwards and cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts on June 15. As per the IMD, the state will face thunderstorm activity during the next five days with wind speed remaining high.
The weather office informed that the sea conditions along and off Saurashtra and Kutch coasts is likely to remain “rough to very rough” till June 14, whereas there will be very rough to high on Thursday, informed the IMD.
In the view of Biparjoy cyclone, famous tourist spot at Gujarat’s Valasad called Tithal Beach has been temperorily closed at the destination is on the Arabian Sea coast.
A advise has also been issued to fishermen to stop all venture activities at the coast considering the intesified cyclone.
In an official statement, the IMD said “The state governments are advised to keep a close watch, monitor the situation in their areas regularly and take appropriate precautionary measures. District authorities are advised accordingly.”
Meanwhile, the news agency ANI reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a review meeting over the situation related to Cyclone Biparjoy.
