A curfew and an internet ban were established in Odisha’s Cuttack following incidents of violence on Sunday, following a previous group clash during the Durga idol immersion procession. The police had stated that the orders would be effective for 36 hours from 10 PM on Sunday, while the internet and social media suspension was for 24 hours across large parts of Cuttack city. In a recent update, as per ANI, the police had a violent spat with the members of an organisation that was denied a bike rally permission, leading to a clash that injured 8 officers.
What Happened in Cuttack
A series of clashes broke out between two communities during the idol immersion procession in the Dargha Bazaar area late Friday night. As per the police, the clashes erupted between 1:30 AM and 2 AM on Friday, near Haathi Pokhari, when a group of locals allegedly objected to loud music being played.
The altercation escalated as stones and glass bottles were repeatedly hurled from rooftops onto the crowd. The violence led to half a dozen people being injured, including Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo on Friday.
