Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy was stopped after returning from addressing a rally against the Bongaon SIR in Bengal. The convoy took a halt after protestors in Barasat, North 24 Parganas flocked it demanding justice. The protest had erupted after the accusations that Barasat Medical College and Hospital had gouged out a patients eye family got to know about it hen the boys was taken for Post Mortem.
Most of the protesters were relatives of 34-year-old Pritam Ghosh, who had accused the Barasat hospital of removing the deceased’s eyes. Ghosh died at the Barasat State General Hospital, where his family has claimed his eyes were gouged out and his eyes were missing.
CM Orders an Investigation
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with the victim’s family and assured them of justice. She also announced a government job for family members from her Chief Minister’s quota and compensation for the family.
Mamata Banerjee said that, “I have ordered a thorough investigation. Action will be taken against the accused. CCTV footage will be examined. We will ensure that the victim’s family gets justice.”
Pritam Ghosh was admitted to the Barasat State Hospital a few days ago, where he died during his treatment. When his body was brought for post-mortem inspection, his family claimed that both his eyes were missing. Since then, the family and the local residents have been protesting.
Mamata Banerjee had addressed a rally against SIR on Tuesday, where she targeted the central BJP government. She claimed that the people of Bengal are being intimidated in the name of SIR, and she also highlighted that SIR is being implemented for political purposes.
