In an investigative breakthrough, the counter-intelligence wing of the Amritsar police busted a cross-border heroin smuggling matrix and apprehended key operatives with direct links to Pakistan. This was an intelligence-led operation, conducted near the Indo-Pak border in Attari, and it led to the recovery of 4 kg of heroin. As per a post from Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, “The accused had retrieved a heroin consignment near the #Indo-#Pak border in #Attari and were en route to deliver it when they were intercepted.”
“A case is being registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the full network, including forward and backward linkages. Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling cross-border drug syndicates and protecting Punjab from the grip of narco-terrorism,” the DGP said.
The Amritsar Police Commissionerate had previously busted a well-organised and multi-level heroin trafficking cartel with direct links to Pakistan, as per police officials. The police later reported in a post on X that the key accused they nabbed has been identified as Sarbjit aka Joban, who was in direct communication with a known smuggler named Rana across the border, and had been arrested earlier along with a juvenile. One kg of heroin was recovered from them.
The DGP further detailed that two more smugglers, identified as Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh, had also been arrested earlier with 5 kg of heroin.
“In a major strike against cross-border narco-smuggling, Commissionerate Police Amritsar busts a well-organised heroin trafficking cartel with direct links to #Pakistan-based smugglers. His interrogation led to the arrest of two more smugglers — Dharam Singh and Kulbir Singh — from Ajnala, with over 5 kg of heroin seized. Total Recovery: 6.106 kg heroin, 2 motorcycles,” the post read.
