A 70-year-old doctor was duped of Rs 3 crore by fraudsters who kept her under “digital arrest” for eight days, a Mumbai police officer said.
Fraudsters framed her in fake money laundering case
According to PTI, the doctor was allegedly made an accused in a non-existent money laundering case by the criminals. In May, the victim had received a call from a person posing as a telecom staffer, who informed her that her SIM card had been used for criminal activities.
The officer further said the victim later received another call from a person posing as a crime branch official. He told her that her bank details and debit card had been found during a raid at the home of an airline company owner who was arrested and later released on bail on health grounds.

The criminals also sent her forged documents claiming raids by central agencies such as the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
Victim was instructed to report to the fraudsters
A man in a police uniform even spoke to her husband via video call, convincing the couple of the legitimacy of the case. The doctor was then placed under surveillance-referred to by the criminals as a “digital arrest”-for eight days. During this period, she was instructed to report to the fraudsters every hour.
Under pressure, the doctor ended up transferring Rs 3 crore into bank accounts provided by the criminals.
On June 5, she lodged a complaint with the police.
Road accident in Dausa kills four family members
In a separate incident, a car collided with a stationary truck in Rajasthan’s Dausa in which four people lost their lives, the police said on Saturday.
The accident happened near the Collectorate junction.
The victims, members of the same family from Rohtak, Haryana, were on a pilgrimage to Mehandipur Balaji when the tragedy struck. The car was severely crushed and stuck inside the truck.
Upon receiving information, Deputy Superintendent Ravi Prakash Sharma and police from the Kotwali station arrived at the scene. The injured were rushed to the Dausa District Hospital, where they were declared dead.
