NIA Raids: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday launched a massive operation involving raids at over 30 locations across six states, targeting individuals apparently in a nexus between Khalistani separatists and gangsters. These raids are reportedly aimed at ending the drug menace and apprehending hawala operators and logistical coordinators associated with the gangsters who have connections to the Khalistan movement. The raids come amid an ongoing row between India and Canada after PM Justin Trudeau, claimed the “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani extremist.

Prior to these operations, the NIA had disclosed a list of 19 fugitive Khalistani terrorists putting up in various countries- UK, US, Canada, Dubai, Pakistan, and others. Among those targeted is Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a designated terrorist and a member of the banned pro-Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
Several reports claimed that as part of the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, the NIA is expected to confiscate their properties and take action against these 19 fugitives under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). These individuals are accused of conducting anti-India propaganda from abroad, and the NIA is actively pursuing measures to curb their activities and disrupt the networks associated with them.
Earlier in an escalated effort to combat pro-Khalistan terrorists, the NIA had also announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for any information leading to the nabbing of three associates associated with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) – Parminder Singh Kaira, Satnam Singh and Yadvinder Singh from Tarn Taran, all residing in Punjab.
