Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu has been sent to judicial custody till September 23 in an alleged Rs 371 crore scam case. Earlier, he was produced in the Anti-Corruption Court (ACB) of Vijayawada, where the judge granted 14 days judicial custody. Now he will be kept in Rajahmundry jail.
In the courtroom, the debate lasted for about seven hours between a team of lawyers led by Supreme Court lawyer Siddharth Luthra and advocates representing CID. Siddharth Luthra told the court that Naidu had been implicated in a false case. Citing legal technicalities in the context of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he claimed that there was no concrete allegation and requested the court to reject the remand report of the prosecuting agency.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh Police said that 73-year-old Naidu was not cooperating during interrogation. He gave vague answers saying he did not remember some of the issues. He was asked questions based on the files which are part of the evidence in this case diary. But, he did not cooperate in answering all the questions and gave vague answers that he did not remember the facts.
Naidu was arrested in Nandyal on Saturday while he was sleeping, he was interrogated for about 10 hours at the Special Investigation Team office of CID in Kunchanapalli. Following this, at 3:40 am he was taken to the government hospital in Vijayawada for medical examination.
Chandrababu Naidu has been arrested in connection with the Skill Development Corporation scam. It is alleged that this scam has caused a loss of Rs 371 crore to the government exchequer. Chandrababu Naidu has been made the main conspirator in the case.
