The Patiala House Court of New Delhi on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in the BMW accident case till 27 September. It is alleged that Gaganpreet had run the BMW car that hit 52 -year -old Finance Ministry official Navjot Singh. The complainant’s counsel Atul Kumar said that the court has postponed the hearing of Gaganpreet Kaur’s bail plea till Saturday.
“The court has adjourned the bail application till Saturday… It’s a matter of investment and sub-judiced. It won’t be right to comment on this right now, Kumar said to PTI. The court has also issued instructions to preserve CCTV footage related to the BMW accident on the application of the accused. The next hearing of the case will be held on Thursday.
Navjot Singh, who was Deputy Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry, was going on a bike from Harinagar area of West Delhi with his wife Sandeep Kaur. Meanwhile, a BMW SUV in Dhaula Kuan – which was allegedly driving Makkar – hit the central divider and hit his bike.
After the accident, both were rushed to the hospital about 19 km away, but Navjot Singh died as soon as he reached the hospital. Gaganpreet was arrested on Monday afternoon and sent to judicial custody for two days after presenting before the magistrate.
In the bail plea, Gaganpreet’s counsel said that “She has fully cooperated with the investment and has deep roots in society and is unlikely to abscond or tamper with evidence.” He also said that Gaganpreet is the mother of two minor daughters and has no criminal record.
His lawyer opposed the police remand petition, saying that there was a 10 -hour delay in registering an FIR. Gaganpreet’s lawyer also argued that “Although the Accident is unfortunate, Around 5,000 accidents are reported nationwide every year, according to an ndtv report.”
The lawyer also said that a DTC bus, which had collided with a two -wheeler in the case, and an ambulance, who had passed there at the time of the accident, should also be accused.
