HYDERABAD: The officials made significant progress and rescued a six-month-old infant who was abducted from Niloufer Hospital, recently. Additionally, the couple responsible for kidnapping the child was apprehended from Banswada, Kamareddy.
The suspects are believed to have left their 10-day-old baby, who reportedly suffered from a genetic disorder, at the hospital while abducting the child of another couple receiving treatment there.
The accused, identified as K Mamtha, a 26-year-old housewife, and her husband, K Srinu, a 26-year-old farmer from Kothabad Thanda in Kamareddy district, were arrested by the Central Zone Task Force team and Nampally police on Wednesday, according to Central Zone DCP M Venkateshwarlu.
The incident unfolded on September 14 when the Nampally police received a complaint from Fareeda Begum, a 24-year-old private worker from Gandipet, stating that her six-month-old son had been abducted from Niloufer Hospital. Fareeda and her mother were at the hospital for the treatment of her four-year-old elder son. While Fareeda was in the waiting lounge with her younger son, her mother was with the elder son. During this time, the accused, Mamtha, struck up a conversation with Fareeda, claiming that her two-month-old baby boy was also receiving medical care.
At 6:30 PM, Fareeda left the waiting lounge briefly to buy food, leaving her sleeping baby under the care of Mamtha, who later abducted the child. Task Force, Nampally, and Saifabad police special teams examined CCTV footage and traced the suspect’s movements, ultimately rescuing the baby from the couple’s vegetable shop in Banswada.
Mamtha and Srinivas informed the police that they had tragically lost two infant boys to genetic diseases, and their third child, a 10-day-old baby boy, was diagnosed with hyperviscosity syndrome (an increase in blood viscosity). Believing their third child would meet the same fate, the couple devised a plan to abduct any baby boy from Niloufer Hospital, according to the DCP.
On September 14, the couple arrived at Niloufer Hospital in the evening and abducted Fareeda’s son. They abandoned their newborn in the hospital’s waiting area. The abandoned baby is receiving treatment and is in stable condition. In light of the child’s welfare, the police are considering releasing the couple with a 41-A CrPC notice requiring them to appear for questioning.
