Coronavirus impact: Ramayan and Mahabharat likely to back on TV again

Coronavirus impact: Responding to people’s demand for a re-telecast of Mahabharat and Ramayan during the nationwide lockdown, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Wednesday said the public service broadcaster was “working” with “rights holders” to air the mythological series on Doordarshan.

New Delhi: In the wake of the corona virus havoc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a lockdown for 21 days in the entire country. While the economy of the country has been affected by the Corona virus on the one hand, on the other hand the entertainment of people has also been affected due to the stagnation of the cinema world. But in the meantime, social media users are now demanding a re-telecast of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

Social media users are demanding telecast of Ramayana and Mahabharata, along with Doordarshan and Prasar Bharati, tagging PM Modi, Prakash Javadekar on social media. Users say that now that they are going to stay at home for many days to come, there will be some good learning for the children and the memories of the elders will be renewed.

Responding to people’s demand for a re-telecast of Mahabharat and Ramayan during the nationwide lockdown, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Wednesday said the public service broadcaster was “working” with “rights holders” to air the mythological series on Doordarshan.

Users particularly demanded the re-telecast of film director Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan that was first aired in 1987 on Doordarshan.

The Ramayan TV serial directed by Ramanand Sagar first aired on DD National in 1987 and B R Chopra’s Mahabharat aired a year later.
