Kolkata: Kolkata Police have confirmed that the crime scene at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a 31-year-old doctor was raped and murdered last week, has not been compromised, despite reports of mob violence. They clarified that the room where the crime took place remains untouched, dismissing rumors of vandalism.

Mob Violence During Protests

Amid widespread protests across Bengal in response to the brutal crime, a mob entered the medical college campus last night, causing significant damage to vehicles and public property. The police used teargas to control the situation, and several officers were injured in the process. The identity of those responsible for the violence is still under investigation.

Political Accusations Fly

BJP Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of orchestrating the violence by sending Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters to disrupt the protest. He suggested that the mob was intentionally allowed into the hospital to destroy evidence. Adhikari claimed that the police either fled or looked the other way, facilitating the mob’s entry.

TMC’s Response to the Incident

Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the violence, urging the police to identify and hold accountable those responsible, regardless of their political ties. He emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of the protesting doctors, acknowledging the fairness of their demands.
