Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, currently lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in connection with a murder case, has sparked outrage after a picture of him receiving alleged VIP treatment inside the jail went viral on social media. The undated image shows Darshan sitting in what appears to be a park inside the prison, relaxing with a beverage and a cigarette. Several notorious inmates, including history-sheeter Wilson Garden Naga, are seen in the picture with him.

The viral photo has drawn the attention of the prison department, prompting them to summon top officials for an inquiry into the matter.

Murder Case Background

Darshan was arrested in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old auto driver and fan of the actor. Renukaswamy was found dead near a flyover in Bengaluru on June 9. According to police, he was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a gang at Darshan’s direction after sending offensive messages on social media to actress Pavithra Gowda, who is rumored to be Darshan’s partner.

Darshan, Pavithra Gowda, and 15 others have been arrested in connection with the case. On August 21, a Bengaluru court extended the judicial custody of Darshan and others involved until August 28.

The photo has raised questions about the prison administration’s conduct and the apparent preferential treatment of high-profile inmates.
