The Congress party is all set to organise a large rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on December 14 as part of its ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign over alleged ‘vote chori’ and the SIR issue. Party leaders have termed the rally a key moment in their political fight against the BJP-led government. The programme follows a call by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
According to Congress leaders, the rally aims to take the party’s message directly to the people and build pressure on the Centre over alleged electoral irregularities. Workers and leaders from several states have already begun arriving in the national capital and a large turnout is expected on Sunday morning.
Jharkhand Congress brings workers to Delhi
Jharkhand Congress President Keshav Mahto Kamlesh said the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has made detailed arrangements to ensure strong participation in the rally. Describing the event as historic, he said party leaders and workers from across the state have reached Delhi in large numbers.
‘The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has made extensive preparations. Regarding ‘Vote chor gaddi chhod’ and SIR, a call was given by our AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and the champion of justice, Rahul Gandhi, for a rally at Ramlila Maidan. It will be a historic event,’ Kamlesh said. He added that leaders and officials from all districts of Jharkhand, along with representatives of various organisations, are already present in Delhi, while thousands more are expected to join the programme on Sunday morning.
‘Step towards decisive battle’, says Bhupesh Baghel
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel said the rally marks an important political step for the party. ‘The Congress party has taken a step towards a decisive battle, and a large number of people will attend this rally,’ Baghel said, adding that the programme is meant to mobilise public support and place the party’s concerns before the people.
The Delhi rally comes amid increased political activity linked to the ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ campaign. Earlier, on November 27, tensions were reported in Lucknow when Youth Congress workers held a protest over the SIR issue. The protest later turned tense after demonstrators tried to cross police barricades and block major roads while marching towards the Vidhan Sabha. Several workers were detained, which Congress leaders criticised, alleging that peaceful democratic protests were met with excessive police action.
