Congress Leader Revanth Reddy Takes Oath As Telangana CM

Anumula Revanth Reddy, a prominent figure in Telangana's Congress, took the oath as the state's second Chief Minister.

After registering a landslide victory in assembly polls 2023, Anumula Revanth Reddy, chief of Telangana Congress on Thursday sworn in as the state’s third Chief Minister.

At Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan presided over the oath-taking ceremony where Mr. Reddy was sworn in as the Chief Minister.

Alongside him, 11 cabinet members, including Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka and former Telangana Congress chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy, took their oaths.

Other members sworn in include Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Dana Anasuya, Tummala Nageswar Rao, Konda Surekha, and Jupally Krishna Rao.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the Gandhi family, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Before assuming office, Mr. Reddy and Mrs. Gandhi paraded inside the stadium in an open vehicle, marking the celebration of their victory.

Here’s a brief introduction to the ministers in the Telangana cabinet:

Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka (Khammam district):

  • A four-time MLA from Madhira (SC) constituency, Khammam district.
  • Known for his padayatra covering 1,400 km across 36 constituencies, laying the groundwork for Congress’s resurgence in the state.
  • Previously served as the Chief Whip of the party government and as the Assembly Deputy Speaker.

N Uttam Kumar Reddy (Suryapet district):

  • A six-time MLA, formerly representing Kodad and later Huzurnagar.
  • Served as the housing minister under N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Cabinet in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
  • Six years of tenure as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief.
  • Won in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, holding positions in both arenas.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy (Nalgonda district):

  • A five-time MLA from Nalgonda and a former MP from Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituency.
  • Previously served as the IT minister in Dr Y S Rajashekara Reddy’s Cabinet.
  • Even after losing in Nalgonda in 2018, won the MP seat from Bhuvanagiri, while his brother Raj Gopal Reddy was elected from Munugode.
