Guwahati: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Assam unit chief Dr Angkita Dutta, who accused IYC chief Srinivas BV and secretary in-charge Vardhan Yadav of harassment, has been expelled from the party for six years. Congress took action alleging anti-party activities.
Congress General Secretary Tariq Anwar said that this action has been taken on the instructions of Congress President Mallakarjun Kharge. The Assam unit of Congress had issued a show cause notice to Dutta as well.
In a police complaint lodged at Assam’s Dispur police station on Wednesday, Angkita accused Srinivasa of gender discrimination and physical and mental harassment.
Dutta also said in his complaint that Srinivas pushed me by holding my hand. Threatened using foul words that he would ruin my career in Congress if I complained against him to higher party functionaries. Dutta told that a complaint was made to the top Congress leadership, but no action was taken.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya has taken a jibe at the Congress. He tweeted that this is the Congress model of women empowerment. Dismiss the woman who has made the allegation of harassment instead of providing a platform to voice her grievances. The way Angkita Dutta has been removed from Congress is indecent for women.
