New Delhi: Following a backlash over “Rashtrapatni” remarks, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday tendered an apology to President Droupadi Murmu. He cited that it was a “slip of the tongue”.

“…I assure you that it was a slip of the tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same,” reads his letter.

While talking to media persons earlier, Chowdhury addressed the President as “Rashtrapatni” that followed a backlash. However, he later apologised admitting that he “mistakenly” said this.

National Commission for Women (NCW) Intervenes

Following the row over “Rashtrapati” comment, National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday summoned Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on August 3. The NCW has sought a written explanation over the derogatory remarks of the latter.

The national commission also asked the Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the matter while demanding an action against Chowdhury for his derogatory remark.
